About
Yumiko Matsubara is the founder of Yumiko Matsubara Architecture + Design and a registered architect in New York and Japan. After graduating from The University of Tokyo in 2007, Yumiko worked on award-winning architectural projects in Japan before expanding her horizons to the United States. She is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
As a naturally detail-oriented person, Yumiko combines sophisticated aesthetics with both traditional and cutting-edge technologies learned at the world’s most innovative design schools and practices. After receiving her Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and working there as a research associate, she moved to New York. She worked on global and local projects in New York with Rafael Viñoly Architects and BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group as a senior architect.
Outside her full-time jobs, Yumiko volunteers with local businesses and individuals, providing design and translation for various projects. Her recent passion projects include an Asian cafe & grocery store in Brooklyn and Japanese cultural documentaries and publications.
